My dress was lace up back but I was told that the lace up bit should really only be for decoration and the fit of the dress will be determined by the inner fitting/corsetry. The problem with aiming to lose weight is that you don't know how you'll lose it or just where from. I have lost a reasonable bit over the last year from my waist but my boobs have actually grown!

Personally I would wait until after Christmas. You will know how your weight loss is gonig and you will have got over any 'blips' at Christmas. Plus, whilst it is a great feeling to loose weight I think it is also a lot of pressure to put yourself under. You should be enjoying your planning - not worrying about trying to make yourself fit into your dress.

I'm sure whatever you choose you will look absolubtely radiant.

I have been looking at dresses and fell in love with some. I have come across the exact one I want size 14 to 16 and it is such a bargain.

Out of interest OP, have you actually tried on the a version one that you say say you've fallen in love with?
because it makes a real difference seeing one on.

Also bear in mind that it's only a bargain if you don't have extra add-ons, such as alterations of alternatives.

Anyway, I still think your weight-loss is fantastic, and whatever you choose, you can still b proud of your achievements so far.

I ordered a dress 2 sizes smaller than I was in January and by August when it was delivered I had lost 25lbs without really trying that hard and had to actually get the dress taken in as it was too big!

How? How do you do that???? :rotfl:

  • I'm in the same boat . . . . i was a size 18 and fell in love with a bargain of a dress in a size 14-16. I brought it!!!! The shop asssistant said at the end of the day they could put a panel in it if i didn't lose the 3 stone i would like to. I have lost 19lb in 19 weeks so i'm hopeful, however i have been dreadful in the past 2 weeks! There is nothing more incentive than looking at your dream dress and knowing how happy you are going to be wearing it.

Whats the very worst thing . . . you lose so much you have to have a whole panel taken out!! I wish you the very best of luck with any weight loss. x
  • Can I firstly say thank you for all your comments.... I have never lost my baby weight (lol.... My baby is now nearly 5 years old) my dad also died nearly 3 years ago so since then I have just overloaded with food. Actually booking a wedding date made me realise enough is enough. So i now eat healthy and have stuck to exercise for nearly 4 months.

The dress I never never tried on. Fell in love with design... It's from eBay. And was dirt cheap so if I get it and I lose more weight if my friend can not alter it then I just sell and buy something else. The fact that I have brought a dress make it seem real that I am getting married and gives me the motivation to keep on with what I am doing. Before We booked our wedding I went to 2 wedding fairs and my dress was there and I was made to feel gigantic when I enquired about the dress so I promised myself then I will loose weight. When my friend got married she was a size 18 and she left one shop in tears.... I don't want to go through that again.

Well done on your weight loss.

I'd advise caution with it. I bought a dress that was 0.5 inches too small for me in the waist, spent the next year dieting and working out (1.5 hours in the gym each day) and thought that would be ok, only to go for my fitting and realise that all the weight had come off the wrong part, my body shape had changed and the dress fit, but only just.

Cue the morning of the wedding, me opening the door to the hairdresser covered in clay and bandages in a last ditch attempt to get the dress done up.

What made it even worse was going for my last fitting and having to stand there while a skinny woman was going on about how her size 4 dress was too big and did she need to put on weight? I have a sense of humour about it now, but at the time I wanted to deck her.
