Am i crazy buying a dress that i will slim into?

Hello!
I feel I need some advice ..... Getting married august 2012 and the last few months been on a diet and lost 38lbs. Now a dress size 18 just.... I have been looking at dresses and fell in love with some. I have come across the exact one I want size 14 to 16 and it is such a bargain.... My heart tells me just buy it.... But my head is saying wait..... I know I can prob loose about another 3 stone by the wedding and hopefully it should fit or I can get a alteration. Am I thinking too far ahead or just love it as its a bargain... Then again of it doesn't fit I could sell on? Any help or words of wisdom please!

Ordinarily, I would say yes....but you have a date and deadline to work to so I would say go for it! Firstly congrats on your impending nuptials and weight loss. 3st is not that much to lose in 10 months, you'll probably find that you lose a lot more if you stay focused. Also - just an educated hunch - by losing 3st aren't you likely to be a lot smaller than a 14-16? I would suggest finding a 12-14 if your wt loss goal is another 3st.

    Good luck!

  • I agree totally that may loose more. I am quite busty hence why I think the 16 so then can alter waist down. I just love love love it....

I would say that if you have got an organised way of losing weight that's working for you then go for it. Just beware that not all dresses will alter well and, if you lose more weight than you anticipate it may not sit right, so be prepared to sell this one and replace it if need be!

Well done for getting so far with the weight loss :)

Only you know deep down whether you think this is achievable.

We've seen quite a few threads on here of girls pannicking because they or their bridesmaids haven't managed to loose all the weight & need to figure out how to take out the dress etc.
If you're certain you can do it, or are calm enough to cope of you don't, then go for it.

It's hard to judge weight to size, so I couldn't guess how much weight you need to lose, to go down a size (or 2)

Is it laced at the back? That would be easy to adjust if you are a either way in size.

I would say go for it!

    Hi
I would ask if it is a lace up dress firstly this will give you a bit of give either way

Secondly I should point out wedding dress sizes are quite different from high street sizes (smaller and vary massively from designer to designer)

I brought my dress 2 sizes smaller (although a lace up back so I had some room) and at my last fitting it was too big, havinga dress to fit into was a massive inspiration for me but I am more bottom heavy than top so I lsot a lot on my boobs which had to be filled out wiht a cup.

I say wait until after xmas, take your measurements and find the measurements of the dress and then review maybe? I dont mean to sound negetive at all as I think your weightloss has been great but I have found the less to lose (7 pounds) has been so hard!!! Good luck xxxx
  • Well done that's such a great weight loss!!:j
I need to loose weight but need to kick start my motivation as I've got into some really bad habits lately :o
I used to be a size 10/12 but I'm now a 14, my dress is a 12 and fits fine on the bottom and waist but as my boobs have grown the back doesn't quite do up yet, so I'm hoping if I can get back down to my original 10/12 then the whole dress will fit better and so will the back. If not the seamstress said there is enough material in the seams to let it out at the back but I'd rather loose the weight! ;)

  • I was going to post a similer post this morning!
I fell in love with a bargin dress... and need to loose 2-3 stone by March!!! Scary thought! But, my friend could put panel in at sides with material taken off the lengh if I needed it... plus it is lace up...
I have the dress, and am eating healthy. Also doing the couch to 5k (which on hold do to whiplash :-( silly driver run in back of us)
So the dress is in my friends wardrobe (to stop nosey people sneeking a peek) and I am on a mission to fit in it!

    I say- go for it!!!

I hoped to lose weight, but just never got round to it. I'm regretting it now when i think about the photo's :o(
I bought a dress that fitted perfectly luckily, i was just hoping to lose weight to look better in it (It's a tie back so is able to fit a few sizes)

Good luck if you do decide to go for it!!

Why put yourself under that pressure? It's a long time until Aug 2012 - why not wait until Easter, say, and have a look then? Who knows what you will see - and suit - by then?

By doing that, you can think about other things, including anticipating the pleasure of having a good old trying on session when the winter's over with, summer is on the horizon, and you've had time to do anything you want to in terms of looking after your health, including any changes you've been able to put in place re your weight and shape, without hassling yourself silly in the meantime. Just a thought from a very old woman.....
