Took out insurance for a car we were buying on saturday. Both myself and my partner have no no claims so expected the policy price to be high but got a fee of £709 for a mini cooper which was fine, we purchased the insurance, bought the car and all was well.
We then had an email saying the quote had been revised and they could do for just over £400 i called was told we would be called back. Someone called last night and went through everything told us they would call back but nothing.
I have just had a call from the company saying that firstly they will not lower it to the email price also just to add to it the policy is apparantly wrong and its now £1200..livid they say sometimes the internet plays up and thinks we have some no claims? but we have the docs with the fee on saying we said no..do we have a leg to stand on?
Really cross tbh.
Meant to say havent added company name as not sure allowed but also details on partners email which i dont have access to.

I would ask them what data has changed from what was input. If there is a clear data change then unfortunately for you they can amend the price as insurance was priced on different information. If there is no information difference then the insurer is thin ice.
It is not uncommon for some details to be assumed or missed out when moving from a quote comparison site to the insurer. You should check the details again to fill in missing gaps or correct the errors. It is inexcusable IMO but it has been this way for a while. For most people the missed off info will not be a material fact for pricing but for some it may.
So, find out what information differed. If the insurer refuse to give it then make a formal complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for this.
Basically the info we provided is correct and the documents we have are as we said so the price as far as we are concerned is right. However they are saying that they 'assumed' that because we have 2 other vehicles we must have some NCD but we dont. They have managed to get my old no claims passed over from my old insurer which was a huge faff and didnt seem to be possible before but has kept the price the same..so so cross tbh at the stress i have had to go through.0 -

I had this issue two weeks ago. I bought a new car as a third car and it has no NCD as that is on the existing two vehicles.
The comparison site asked what NCD i had built up on my other vehicle and was quite clear that I had zero NCD for this new vehicle. However, when the list appeared, a couple of the providers had taken the NCD for the other vehicle into account. When I went through their application and corrected it, their price shot up.
The whole comparison site through to insurer was messy as data was mixed up and I know what I am doing.
However, that information is a material fact for pricing and the insurer can re-price. I don't know if it is the insurer's fault or the comparison site as we cant tell the mechanics on who sends what info and how. You just suffer the consequences. They will fall back on the fact that they ask you to check the details are correct before you press submit.
You can either accept their new price or if you can get better you could push for cancellation at no cost to you because you blame them for the error. They will probably accept that and if they dont then tell them you wish to complain and they will either back down or the person in complaints will have the authority to allow your cancellation at no cost.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Maybe it's not your fault anymore.
