Phone to PC

I have spent hours trying to connect my Samsung to my PC. I don't have the original software and cable, but bought a generic cable and downloaded the suite. All I get is a message saying 'USB Device Not Recognised'. I have the phone set to 'Mass Storage' (and tried all other options), I have uninstalled and reinstalled the suite and drivers in different orders and still it doesn't work.

Do I need a genuine Samsung cable?

Some manufacturers make money on requiring specific cables (and connectors). A large round-fruit manufacturer springs to mind....

What model is it? All USB cables are not equal, but you shouldn't need a Samsung branded one (I can connect my GS2 fine with a variety of cables)

Edit: make sure you get on that specifies "data cable" and you should be fine. Also try in a different USB port on your computer just in case :)

Thanks, it specify data cable and have tried different ports. Also tried to download suite onto netbook, but Windows 7 doesn't accept it for some reason, so can't try that!

Tried 2 cables now (same brand, thought first was faulty) and neither work.

Which suite? I've got Kies (which is a pile of rubbish, but it installs the necessary drivers to run Odin :p ) and that downloaded and installed fine on Windows 7

Out of ideas, sorry! You might want to have a google and see if there's some compatibility issues somewhere with Windows 7 (and hopefully a fix)
