Cost of moving Sky

Options
Hi All,

We exchnaged last Friday and are due to complete next Wednesday. Amongst all the utilties I need to arrnage to be moved is Sky. There is no Sky dish at our new property, and form reading the Sky website they say they may charge for installation of a new dish.

So does anyone know how much this may be and how long it takes for them to get it re-installed? I am gonna ring them tomorrow and see what they say :)

Cheers,
Dave.

  • If you know for definite when you are going to be moving in I would be tempted to recommend your partner to Sky.

When they have been accepted and the both of you are eligible for your £50 M&S vouchers, I would cancel the subscription at your present property.

Of course, for the amount of rubbish on Sky, I would cancel it all together.

if when you tell them your moving play dumb and say you didnt think it would cost you anything and that with all the hosue moving costs that you will leave it they will firstly do it for half price, then you have still got o say sorry but its still too much for me right now, they will say let me speak to my manager and like magic they can all of a sudden do it for free. helps more if you a long term customer but sky are despearate to keep it viewers at the moment and it seems at any cost.

i'm forever ringng them up saying that i think i will cancel and they give me some offer such as three months half price. its surprising what you get when you ask.

When I last moved I was told I just needed to take my skybox & cables & a new dish would be installed at my new property free of charge. When the installer came he aslo supplied a new skybox, as this was down on his docket too & he told me to keep the one I already had as a spare.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

we last had sky dec 2005 in house#3. they got OH to pay £1 a month so that when we decided to reinstall in new house it would be free, but cancelled this after a couple of months, but kept sky+ box.

now on house#6 and finally want sky back, this house has no dish. emailed sky to ask about £, they said id have to pay for reinstallation. in high winds our ariel came down (CRASH!). The tv men said theyd charge us £80 for a dish, get a card from sky for £20 and use our box, so sky for £100. wish we'd kept paying £1 a month now!

    Dave.
I phoned up $ky the other day to cancel because I'm moving in a few months and need to start saving. I got put through to the cancellations department they offered me £2 per month for three months and a free move. Then they would look at it in three months.

If they try to charge you to move $ky ask for cancellations because you can't afford that with the expense of moving. Cancellations have the authority to make offers to keep customers (sometimes very silly offers 6mths at 75p being an example). Cancellations should offer you the move for free. If they don't well you can always sign up as a new customer with the OH. It does depend on who you get on the day but I'd say 9 times out of ten you'll get an offer to stay.
  • Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. Will call them tomorrow to see what they say. I'm fully expecting them to want to charge me, but I don't expect to have much leverage as I am still within my 12 month initial contract period....might threaten to cancel once done though and see if that helps! ;)

    Cheers.
