train from prestwick change at glasgow. Copy of your flight 'ticket' gets discount a 3rd off I believe.
bus goes from prestwick airport to glasgow bus station and you can buy on line0 -

train is easiest. there are special tickets if you have flown ryan air. think the deal lasts to your final destination so make sure you buy a ticket to edinburgh rather than glasgow.x x x0

Your cheapest and fastest way would be by train.
If you are flying with Ryanair, show your boarding pass to train conductor and you get 50% off fares to anywhere in Scotland.
The train station at Prestwick is literally right outside the terminal, you cannot miss it.
Your route would be:
Prestiwck International - Glasgow Central
either walk or get free bus (show train ticket to driver, ask in station about this) from Glasgow Central to Glasgow Queen Street.
Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh (either Edinburgh Waverly or Edinburgh Haymarket, depends where you are going)
DO NOT GET THE EDINBURGH TRAIN FROM GLASGOW CENTRAL AS IT TAKES ABOUT TWO HOURS!!!!! The Queen Street to Edinburgh train takes just over half an hour. The Central train and Queen Street trains run on entirely different lines!A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -
and dogrose is correct, ask for a ticket to your final destination
I've just checked the Prestick airport webpage and this page
http://www.gpia.co.uk/AirportInfo/default.asp
says "50% discount on rail travel to/from anywhere in Scotland", so even if you're not flying Ryanair you sohuld be eligible for it.A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -

According to http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ an off peak single would be £13.30 and if flying you would get this for £6.65. As said above most of the trains from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh are really slow - so walk the 10 minutes (about 4 blocks) to Queen Street. Total travel time should be just over 2 hours.0
