Itunes store not working

in Techie Stuff
I can't access my Itunes store or the Help menu as it doen't recognise that I'm connected to the internet. I think this has possibly been since I upgraded to AVG 2012 (free version).
I think I probably need to add it as an 'allowed' application somewhere but I can't see where!
Can anyone offer any suggestions please?
