bankruptcy and home insurance, help please

OK hoping you knowledgeable folk can help me out here.
my OH went br earlier this year and I am just now in the process of renewing my home and contents insurance...and wow, my premiums have more than doubled for buildings and contents.
I am having trouble though finding quotes as when using the comparison sites they make "assumptions" about you and one of these is always "the policy holder or anyone at the address is or ever has been bankrupt", and obviously I cannot say yes to that. So I wonder, does anyone know of any insurance providers who will insure in our situation?
So far as I said i have only found one and the premium for building and contents is so high it is over twice as much as it was before. As such I cannot afford to pay it in one go, so you then get the joy of addidng the high apr to pay monthly pushing it even higher. I would like a few quotes if possible before i go ahead and so any advice anyone can give would help here, thanks.
PS how poo that it asks if anyone has EVER been br, surely after the 6 years on record it shouldn't matter?
for info on insurance in case it makes any difference, itll be in my name with him as an adult in the house but not policy holder - is he and his stuff still covered in that case? would it make any difference to policy?
Hope that makes sense, thanks guys

Check out the thread above, it deals with exactly the issues you hilite.
I suggest, pulling off the comparison websites, all those insurers who appeal to you [as being cheapest or best cover, etc]....by entering details, but not answering the BR question correctly.
Then, contact that list of insurers direct, give them the BR situation, and see what they say.
I think you'll find many actually wont penalise you.
If no joy, try Co-operative Insurance?
However, a lot of companies wont entertain BR's in the house until two years are passed......so be warned. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
This related thread lists BR friendly home insurers. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Ring the COOP, quite a few of us on here have insurance with them. I pay by instalments and my premium has not increased.:pB&SC No. 298

Thanks everyone, must have searched wrong coz I couldn't find the thread before. I think you get in a panic and its hard to find what you need. This is an area I had no idea would be affected and we weren't told by anyone - CAB, National Debtline, Shelter, Court, OR people...never was it mentioned that insurance would be void or that premiums would be permanently more expensive. Insolvency - the gift that keeps on giving!
I'll go ring a few, see how i get on.0 -
