bids withdrawn- latest fad

The latest thing to irritate me is the amount of bidders who now email and ask me to cancel their bids, usually with a sob story about how they have thought about it and now can't really justify spending £2.50 on a widget when they haven't got any money. Or just saying they can't afford to pay if they win (on a £4 item).

Nobody ever used to withdraw bids yet I've had one withdrawn in the past month (I suspect shield bidding that went wrong) , plus 3 more in the past three weeks asking me to withdraw a bid as they don't know how to.

The latest a few minutes ago was less than 3 hours before auction ended as apparently they just don't have the money and are too embarrassed to ask me for a reduction in cost -they then put a cheeky 'any chance?' at end of email- yet they bid on the first day of a 10 day auction. I withdrew their bid (blocked them of course) and posted their question and my response ' bid now withdrawn as requested' and they have just emailed me to say that I have embarrassed them by posting their email on my listing.

Good, glad they are embarrassed (although actually it does not show their user name)

Don't sellers get bid retractions recorded against them?

I always reply to e-mails to tell them to do it themselves...

I just can't risk them not paying or being silly and claiming non receipt in a huff. I do always withdraw the bid but I;m getting a bit peeved about it.
