Save money on National Express

As you may be aware, they do 'fun fares' at a reduced price.
However, a couple of tips
1. Connections don't work with funfares, so if you are connecting, try looking for the price for two separate trips. For example, Northampton to Brighton connects in London, so search for Northampton to London, then London to Brighton.
2. There are limited fun fares available in each category, i.e. x fares at £1 each way, Y at £5 etc. The nationalexpress website will display the lowest fare for each route, i.e. 'from £1'. If you are booking for two or more people and the lowest fare listed is, say, £1, often when you get to the actual booking screen the fare will have increased to £5 each person. This is because there is only one of the cheapest fares available. The website quotes the cheapest fare for all the passengers booking on a journey. Solution! - Book 2 separate tickets, one at the cheapest price and the other at the higher rate.
By using these two tricks, I've reduced the price of my next trip from about £50 to £16!
There is also cashback. I use greasypalm who offer 2.5% which usually works out better for me, although Quidco offer 30p per ticket which might work out better if you get the really low fares!
Hope this is helpful!
Simon.
