Existing PC (XP), partition HDD and reinstall XP on new partition?

If you used the recovery partition, there should have been no need to connect to the Internet in order to activate Windows.
I didn't connect to the internet, it had automatically logged on to the unsecured network.
I assumed that because the message come up about "Your Vista is activated" and at the same time Nortons was trying to update, that it had already 'phoned home' to Microsoft.
In any case 70+ processes on a brand new install is a big no-no in my book.:)
It now runs perfectly with Avast + plain Vista Home Basic.Move along, nothing to see.0
