Hi there,
I've been lucky enough to be given an iPad 2. I'm trying to download my macafee virus scan onto it, but it won't allow me. Can anyone give me any ideas as to why this is? I've read a couple of things on the internet and some say it doesn't need a virus scan, but others say it does?
Can anyone advise me please.
Thank you

From Macafee's pages;
System Requirements
Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or higher (32-bit)
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 or higher (32- and 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 7 including SP1 (32- and 64-bit)
Is your iPad running any of these Operating Systems?0 -
Hello there thanks for replying. No the iPad isn't running any of those my browser is safari???? If that makes any sense. Sorry I'm not clued up on computers.0

Have a read through this thread:

In theory any computer, phone or tablet can be compromised security wise. My view is that at the current time the iPad is a pretty low risk enviroment.
Enjoy using it and as you would with any other computer surf safely. Take the normal precautions (strong passwords, different passwords for different sites etc, being careful what you click on) and you'll be fine.0 -

Is that a little tongue in cheek?
to the OP
Ipad is made by Apple and runs on their operating system....Microsoft makes the more virus friendly Windows operating systems so it's two very different operating systems....you most likely don't need any antivirus for an Ipad at this time as there seems no real risk as it doesn't run on Microsoft Windows.... enjoy it

nope there are no antivirus for the iPad and it doesn't need one as it cannot get malware if you keep it up-to-date.
if you haven't already install itunes onto your computer, connect the ipad and select update, this will install iOS5 on to it (the latest version of it's operating system),
iOS 5 has more features than older version of the operating system one feature is being able to update without being connected to itunes, this will provide you with any and all security and normal updates, in order to keep you safer than running an old OS.0 -
Whilst there may be no virii that can infect an iPad it can still act as a carrier. If you receive and then forward on an infected email, for example, it will not affect your iPad but could pass on the infection to those of your contacts who use Microsloth-based systems. As a confirmed Linux user I have less concern about my machine being infected but I still use Clam Antivirus so that I do not become a modern day Typhoid MaryMy very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

You don't really need a virus scanner for the iPad. There is some risk but very minimal.
The only major security hole (with PDF's) was used to jailbreak and then that was fixed almost instantly by Apple.
