What defines a bedroom for insurance companies? Is it a room that isn't a public room, kitchen or bathroom, or is a room defined by its size or its purpose?!

Its different for different companies. You have to find out what that company defines as a bedroom, for some it is a standard bedroom, so when the house is sold "2 bedrooms/3 bedrooms, for others it can be bedrooms converted into other things also, such as offices etc.0

It is always safest to ask the insurer in question, I assume you have a X bedroom property but have decided to use one room for purposes other than a bedroom.
The question is generally only relevant for those who are taking out fixed sum insured policies but due to the frequency of this type of activity these days most will also ask how many other rooms you have as well as the bedroom count, though how these are weighted in comparison to a bedroom I've never had the inclination to test.0 -
Its what the house was originally made for...
I only use 1 "Bedroom", the other "Bedroom" is used as a reception room, but its still classed as "2 Bedrooms"0 -
