Does my tax code change if I pay child maintenance?

I have been paying £240 a month child maintenance (for one child) for the last year and have just been told by a friends that if you pay child maintenance, it affects your tax code. i.e. your tax code goes up. Is this true?

It may do, but it was largely phased out years ago - details here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/maintenance-relief.htm
