Tread carefully when going to a solicitor to make wills ...
The points you make are all valid. However, I fancy you make them a little too forcefully. A little personal interest perhaps?

Not at all, I state only fact and my own personal opinion as is my perogative on a public forum. No other motive than to give an informed persepctive on these issues. Nothing more nothing less.

If a plumber offers his advice on a plumbing subject his motives would not be questioned? Why should my opinions be any different than just my opinions?

If you are suggesting I post to promote my services or business then you are completely misinformed. I am well known on these forums and have been since 2005 as someone who has never promoted myself or posted for the purpose of obtaining business as, quite frankly, I am sufficiently succesful that I do not need to. I do on occasion get asked for professional help but usually refer enquirers on to other sources.

I consider these forums as recreation, and I never mix business and personal life.

    Fair comment.

Well not all solicitors insist on being executor, ours certainly didn't. If they do try to insist you can always say no, if they refuse to draft the will they won't get paid at all.

OP November is Will Aid month which means participating solicitors will give their time free in exchange for a donation to charity. We did our wills in this way last year.

They only give their time free for a very very basic will. Be careful that they do not try to persuade you to taske overcharged ancillary services. In Willaid cases you will generally find that the solicitor will almost nearly always insist on being an executor.

Surely no one is naive enough to think that a solicitor will do something for nothing?

The concept of will aid is good but make sure you read the other posts on this forum about it and ensure that the 'free' will offers correct provision for your circumstances instread of just a 'him to her and her to him' type will.
