First of all find one of those online links you tried previously but instead of using the PC download it using the Blackberry browser on the handset instead.

    Else if that fails...

If you plug in the handset and open Blackberry Desktop Manager do you get a prompt to update "Blackberry Application Loader"? If so backup your handset first and do this: -

    1. Don't click OK or close the prompt yet, disconnect the phone and close Blackberry Desktop Manager making sure it is not running in the background using Task Manager (right click the Taskbar > Start Task Manager.

    2. When you're certain that the BDM is completed closed click OK on the prompt to update the BAL.

    3. Once the download is complete and the update has been installed reconnect your handset and open BDM (if it hasn't done so automatically). The handset's firmware should start to update.

It may take a significant amount of time to complete the firmware update. When I was a BES Admin I was responsible for updating numerous BB handsets and the time involved could take anywhere from 30 minutes to over 2/3 hours.
Hopefully this should solve the problem.
