private contract hire insurance

Hi i am thinking of contracting a car for three years and was wondering what is the best way or company to get car insurance from as with most companys you have to own the car. ???

The majority should still insure you, with HPI the finance company is the owner of the vehicle. The difference is that if you have a total loss they will pay the finance company rather than yourself but you would still be liable for any shortfall

I have had contract hire cars for 7 years covered by a personal motor policy.

The contract hire costs are paid for by my company, but the contract wording simply states that the car must be insured against damage - it does not specify whether this insurance must be in any particular name as it does not make that requirement.

The vehicle is used for business and personal use and is insured accordingly.

Some insurers won't for some reason offer cover on a personal policy for a contract hire vehicle - possibly they think it will be a pool car subject to high rates of accident. As long as you declare the fact of the vehicle ownership when insuring, you have an insurable interest by virtue of the contract condition making you responsible for arranging an insurance which must cover the authorised driver(s) of the vehicle.
