Earlier this year, I posted a question about calling German mobile numbers from a UK mobile, which I have to do every day in connection with my business. This was an expensive, nightmare situation !
The good news is that I am now based in a UK office with a landline phone. So my question to all you budget telephony gurus out there is, what's the cheapest way for someone in Germany to call a UK landline ? They will be calling for approximately 90 minutes per day.
They will be calling from a mobile and the obvious thought was to use Skype. The complication is that they are in Bavaria, often on the road in remote hilly areas, where internet connection via a mobile phone is terrible. We've tried Skype and other VOIP type providers and the connection at the German end is so poor that it's impossible to hold a conversation.
They seem to be able to make and receive conventional calls fine, so what we want to do is use one of those forwarding arrangements where they call a certain number in Germany, which then forwards the call onto me in the UK. I don't know if they're still in business, but you might remember we used to have Telestunt and Telediscount doing the same thing over here a few years back. We've tried toolani.com at 2.9 cents per minute and were very impressed. We'll keep using this until we find something cheaper. There seem to be lots of tales of sub-1 cent per minute calls from Germany to UK landlines via allocated forwarding numbers in Germany, but we haven't found anything yet.
If anyone can help, I would be very grateful indeed.
