i recently purchased an acer aspire t180 athlon from dabs.com. I spoke to my bil and said that i had ordered the bt hub as where i want the pc there is no telephone point and i didnt want wires going round the front room or the hassle of putting an extention in. then he goes on about a wifi card! well ermm hello im female who has no knowledge of pc's except for how to turn them on so !!!!!! is he on about? and he knew i wanted to get the home hub so why wait to p*ss me off and confuse me just before i go to bed with a headache? then he also starts saying how rubbish my pc is as i have to do my own recovery disc.. why is that such a problem?
anywayyy now im not sure if i have done the right thing as he's completely confused me and sent the only few brain cells i have into marshmellow
i've just looked on the spec for the pc and theres no modem.. is this going to cause even more problems, have i just done a completely f**k up and wasted over 400quid on a pc thats gonna take me ages to get connected to the internet?..
someone help me!

It will work wired if you plug the home hub into the network card, I assume that you have broadband?
As for making it wireless..

At the moment you have ordered a pc that needs an Ethernet cable to link it to the BT Hub. If that is not what you want you can either have a wireless ethernet card (wifi) installed inside your PC or buy a USB gadget like this one to connect it to the BT Hub

The computer needs a card in it to 'talk' to the hub. They are not very expensive, so Id add one to the Dabs order if you can. Heres a standard, branded one, but maybe someone knows of a better one?
Edit: Sorry, wrong card.
Try this one.

Its not, just make sure its the first thing you do.
Anyway, deep breaths and count to 10.

you'll have to encrypt your wireless to make it secure, instructions should come with the hub.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

***Reread my post please crispeater, I got the wrong card.***
Networks can be slightly tricky to set up, but not that hard. It souldnt be a problem if you can install a PC card, or get your bil to do it."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
which is best to get the card with the pretty ariel that my son would love to pull at lol or the usb stick thing?
i'd love to be able to add it to my order but divvy ollocks here has already ordered and received said item :S
i wouldnt mind but i went through it all with my bil who loves a pc and knows quite a bit (or so i thought) and he's going yeah thats a good one got everything you need.. NOT!It only seems kinky the first time.. :A0 -
Well the card is better, but the USB thingy would allow you to hide it if you want to stop the little darlings playing when your not there. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

Personally Id go for the internal card, but the USB would be easier, until someone knocks it. Its not hard to install a PCI card really, but if you do go for the USB, try to plug it into a USB port at the back of the computer as it'll be hidden, probably."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0

I will second ( make that fourth it, I need to type faster )....getting the internal card - can't be swapped at school ... and was designed for networking - unlike the usb solution ...
If this is your PC then seems you have a free slot for the card as well - but check before you buy by having a look at the back - maybe your BIL can help.....Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0
