Where I work a phased return uses annual leave to make up the person's normal hours. Though I don't know what happens if there is no annual leave left.
Also a phased return can be changed either way, so if after a week the person and their line manager feels they can return to normal hours they can and also they can also lengthen their phased return.
Ask if you can use annual leave to make up the hours.
That is ridiculous. A friend of mine has been off for about 8 months and is having a phased return of 4 hours a day, 2 days a week. If she used annual leave, she'd be getting through 4 days a week of annual leave!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Your employer needs to give cognisance to this and change the culture. Are you aware of others being off for similar reasons?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
