Had our item stolen

We have had a copper tank listed on ebay for the last week. We sold it yesterday so went to the garage to clean it up ready for the buyer to collect. We live in a busy street so lots of people were passing as we were in the garage sorting it out.
Last night the garage was broken into and the tank (among other things) has been stolen.
As far as the sale goes what happens now? I already contacted the buyer last night and sent an invoice and asked when he would collect. What is the process for cancelling the transaction. The police are not confident we will get it back.

If you have a police crime number tell the buyer as that shows you have had a genuine loss.
Then just see if they are prepared to do a mutual to cancel sale.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
