Android phone didn't update time

Hi
I have an phone running Android 2.1 I set my alarm for 7am at 2330 last night and it told me that it would go off in 8.5hours giving me the impression that the time would update.
Alarm went off, clock says 6am, sky says 6am, laptop says 6am but phone says 7am.
Tried to update it but had to untick the box for automatic use network provided values, when I ticked it again it went back to the wrong time. Just switched phone off and back on and the time is now correct.
Any reason for this?

what phone is it? Just saying Android doesn't help much... Switching off and on again would force a refreshed connection to your provider's network and pick up the correct time from them. As a side note, my Galaxy S2 (on 2.3.5) updated by itself just fine. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
