How did this ebayer manage to avoid max postage restriction?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180746148016
In clothing category- the max is £4, isn't it? I'm selling a large bundle myself at the moment and I had to select "courier- heavy and bulky items" and just state postage amount in the description, would be great to be able to add it into the actual postage box and for it to come up on the invoice automatically, I'm always dreading somebody buying and then saying they "didn't notice" the postage amount. Any suggestions welcome, thank you!

No I can't work out how they have done that- however you are going to come a cropper if you show more postage in your auction listing that the invoice will pick up.

If you have a £4 postage charge in the box then that is all the buyer is required to pay. There are buyers who will trawl auctions for ones where they can get stuff cheaply- as they know the rules.

  • ~It is listed in the "bundles" section, so maybe thats how they did it?

Rather than it being listed in "jeans" or "t shirts and tops"?

I actually tried listing in the clothes# bundles section and it still capped the postage to £4

I'd forgotten about the £4 cap on postage in the clothing category! :o

I listed a load of childrens clothes last weekend and I had two bundles which I put in £4.95 postage - it let me put this through and didn't tell me I couldn't list because the postage was above the cap or anything.

So god knows how I got around that!

Unless it's because I used Turbo Lister?
  • I have just listed an outfit including a hat so it needs to be a big box, using the postage finder it would be £4.41, so I used the collection in person as first option and then gave the other prices it seems to have worked.

  • Update on my last message no it didn't work, what you have to do is state the postage costs in the body of the description then when reviewing the listing use the drop down menu to show courier heavy items. This definitely worked for me.

No, it just says "Courier - Read the item description or contact the seller for details" in the box itself, the postage charge is stated in the description(in large red letters lol) but has to be added to the invoice manually when something sells.
I'm really puzzled as to how they got around the cap.

lexuslass really it let you do that via Turbolister? Don't have it myself to try. anybody else had any luck?
I'm all for charging fair postage but surely even ebay must realise there's no way you can post large heavy bundle for £4.

eeeeeee, thanks, have just tried that, the postage cap appears when changing from unlimited postage category to "clothing" category..

yes turbolister let me charge £4.95 for postage! had it have flagged up about the cap, then I would have taken an item or two out of the bundle I was listing to bring it under £4!

I have no idea if I will come unstuck when I invoice the buyer, but thank god I only stand to lose 95p and that I hadn't listed larger bundles where postage would have been a lot more!

EDIT: It let me invoice at £4.95 postage and I have since been paid for one of the bundles of clothes with no problems!

Looks like Turbolister is the way to go if you want to sell bundles of clothes with higher postage!
