    Mortgage-free Glee!
In addition to the water rates and public toilets (two of my favourite pet hates):

We used to get out of date bread from the local (tiny) supermarket for the ducks.

    Other things:

-We used to take back all the used lemonade bottles to the local offi and get one full bottle "free"
    -Parking
-Bags of iced gems from Mrs Davies' corner shop in East Ham (my Nan's house backed onto Mrs Davies' shop and so they were good friends and always gave use bags of iced gems when we went to visit - we always HAD to visit Mrs Davies when we saw Nan!)
-Swimming at the local baths during Summer Holidays
    -Sachets of ketchup
-Top ups to your cup of tea/coffee (still applies in the US - why is UK so mean?!)
-Cheese and ritz biscuits on the bar on Sundays in pubs
-The dash of lemonade in a lager-top. How can they charge extra when they have already charged for a full pint?
-The dash of lime in a lager. Argument:Ditto
    -Air/Water at the garage
    -Milk at school
-As many black sacks of rubbish removing as you needed - you weren't limited as now.
-Fresh yeast at supermarket bakeries (they are charging for this in some I use)
-Leftover spoilt veg for your compost heap
-Competitions - how many do you have to spend a fortune phoning an expensive phone line to enter now?
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

i have worked in a few pubs and have never heard of charging for the lemonade top. i know some pubs charge for the lime, but never the lemonade.

My OH's grandmother told us that they used to use the phrase "they'll have us paying for the water next". It was once such a crazy concept - the equivalent of us paying for the air.

    Don't give them ideas:eek:
Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D

Every day is a new challenge not a new problem!:p

    SW start 08/01/14 4/21lbs (1st target) :j
  • As kids we used to give the local greengrocer empty egg boxes in exchange for oranges.. he was always over the moon to get them as he got his eggs in trays and never had enough boxes!
..May tomorrow bring new horizon's...... ::j
