Thank you everyone for your replies and sharing your recipes. :A
Son's GF does like quorn and I make a mean lasagne (even if I say so myself) that is often requested by guests so I think this time I may just stick with my usual recipe but use quorn instead. I love cooking and people tell me I do it well, but I still get slightly apprehensive when cooking for others especially if I'm trying somethng new
, so I'll feel safer with a quorn version of my own recipe.
However, the veggie lasagne recipes sound fabulous so I'm going to experiment with that as a new family meal the following week.
Lynz, thanks for the tip about free range eggs and mayo. We always have free range and I'll probably make my own mayo. Crumble is a good idea too.
thistledome, I wouldn't have known that cheese can be non veggie, so thank you.
LondonDreamer, thanks for the reminder about rennet and gelatine.
Jackie, thank you for the tip about frying the quorn.
squeaks, she can cook but I've known her for quite a long time and we have 'bonded' already...I just want to invite her for a special meal where she'll be a guest rather than just mucking in with us like she normally does.
lemontart, she's definitely not vegan.
Angeltreats, Future MIL would be getting a bit ahead of myself, but she's a lovely girl and I don't want to make an obvious mistake and serve something that she would prefer not to eat. I'll avoid parmesan.
ab7, thanks for the tip about bisto. I've never tried it, but I'll get some in. I was planning on using marigold bouillon rather than my usual beef stock cubes but was wondering if it would lack the usual meaty flavour.
Just a bit of background info; GF decided about three years ago that she didn't want to eat meat herself for ethical reasons. She likes the taste of meat and doesn't object to others eating it. She actually cooked DS a full Irish (including bacon) for breakfast on Saturday morning. She is the only member of her family who is vegetarian and is terribly, terribly thin. Her family are different from ours in that they only eat one meal together each week and her parents (both doctors) have mentioned...privately to me... that although she has a big appetite and eats a very healty diet, it mainly consists of fruit and veg and they are concerned about her weight. So I want to make it a calorific meal without being too obvious about it.
Once again, thank you all so much for your replies.

Btw I mean the gravy powder in the box, not the granules although both are veggie, the powder gives a much nicer consistency and flavour.
They made it veggie a few years ago and for a few weeks I lived off mash and bisto, or roast tatties and bisto when I found out :rotfl:was a great childhood memory.0 -

Thanks Jackie, I haven't tried it before so wasn't sure. And your typing isn't terrible, well not too much anyway.;)
