Hi I have just set up an old PC on XP and have downloaded all the updates. However I am finding browsing the internet really frustrating. On nearly every page a 'pop up bar' appears at the top of the web page and I need to click the x so that all the content is displayed. It won't let me download skype on either firefox or IE.
How do I get around this please?

sounds to me like your pc has got a nice bit of malware on it and is nicely infected at that. i would suggest downloading the free version of malwarebytes then updating the defintions then running the scanner as see how infected you are! just getting another browser will not sort the problem long term.
get from http://filehippo.com/search?q=malwarebytes
also another thing you can do to really speed things up is a complete fresh install of xp if you still have the disc and licence number just make sure you format before install then update the lot. it would only take a few hours to do.0
