Buildings insurance & claim with neighbour update!

Yesterday my post was regarding how when I wanted to make a claim for damage caused by a neighbours conservatory blowing over in the storms, and then being told I had no buildings insurance! I had changed my mortgage from the Halifax at the end of last year and they had cancelled the buildings insurance, although I thought it would continue until the renewal date.

Well, I checked my paper work, and it clearly said, if i hadnt contacted the Insurance Dept when I paid off the mortgage, then the insurance would remain valid until renewal. Phoned Halifax who admitted they had made a mistake by cancelling it without my say so, & promptly updated my policy and found that they owe me £50! So now I can happily make a claim.

I wonder how many other people may have been in this position when changing to another mortagage company. Beware : Dont take everything they say as gospel!
