Thinking about a swap to Sky

Such a newbie when it comes to this, so please bear with me, lol. I'm thinking about switching from BT (phone) and Virgin Media (Broadband) to Sky Broadband&Talk.

I pay:
BT - £95 (approx) quarterly - before calls and VAT added on!
Virgin Media - £21.50 monthly inc VAT
So that's £160 per quarter, no costs of calls included.

Now the Sky build package (inc Talk, line rental and broadband) is £27.25 ongoing (not inc the 6-month promotional period etc) so with big savings each quarter, I'm definitely thinking about a switch!

But does this £27.25 include VAT or will that be added on top after calls? I'm at the 'checkout' on the website and there's nothing on the term and conditions about VAT :(

Absence is as important as abundance.

Yes that does include the VAT. I'm on the Sky Talk freetime (evenings and weekends), line rental and unlimited broadband = £22.75 a month.

Correction: £22.25 a month :) I just double checked my account!

BT line rental is £13.90/month (£41.70/quarter) including VAT. Where does the other £48.30 come from if that's before calls?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

It comes from a combination of things
    • the rental cost per month of the actual telephone (which I don't like/never wanted, but is included in the contract)
    • payment processing fees for paying quarterly and for not paying for not paying by D.Deb (can't be changed, contract T&Cs)
    • a few quid per for Callminder (unwanted from start but tied in to contract), whereas 1571 is free with Sky
The self-renewing contract was taken out by mum in her name (we live together) years ago and was told that based on her previous billing, that this would be the most beneficial plan for her... and now reading the updated small print, it's not lol.

Excellent! It sounds like I'll be giving my notice to Virgin and BT on Monday!

A real human? Wow, it's been a while since I've had one of those when I've rang a customer service number ;)

I've only had one problem with them in the past 2 years and believe it or not that was Sky,did get sorted and paid though after about 4 months.
Everything else has tracked and paid perfectly, bought something on Ebay last night tracked this morning with email notification.
If you want a referral let me know and i will post on referrals board
  • right the deal i am being offered is:
    Sky Talk Anytime £5.00
    Sky Broadband Unlimited £7.50
Sky+ Box with Basic Entertainment Package £20

    First 3 months Broadband Free

£30 credit on account so basically free installation

Works out about £42.85 per month

I am paying about that for Talk and Broadband with Talk Talk [don't ask!] but i know Plusnet can do talk & Broadband a lot cheaper than Sky.
Sky are ringing me back in 30 minutes so I'm going to make them sweat! Any tips?
