Hot water & radiators.

Still trying to get the measure of my central heating and hot water!
Through the summer we have had hot water constantly which has been fine. I have turned the radiators on last week (TRVs) and since then there has been less hot water.
Is this becuase some of the hot water being generated is being used to heat the radiators?
I didnt want to have the heating on too long as just wanted a quick blitz to take the chill off.
The hot water comes on at the same time as the heating (cannot set separately) and is on for about 3/4hr morning and evening - this has always been fine to heat water adequately before....
Any advice welcomed

What boiler/system do you have?0

Suprima 500

if its the Suprima HE 50, you should be able to set the heating and hot water seperately.
its got a built in 2 channel programmer. afaik.Get some gorm.0 -
it sounds to me like you have a " y " plan tank fed,
heating syatem " y plan`s" are very popular,
the coil in the hot water cylinder is part of the central heating circuit,
the divertor vale or y plan valve diverts the boiler water
to central heating/hot water coil/ or both ,
when you select hot water and heating,
the hot water coil takes longer to heat the hot water in the cylinder,
coil, because the central heating circuit is " bigger " therefore
takes more of the heated water,
you need a programmer which allows you more control,
example the horstmann 425 tiara,

it might even be a old `w` plan divertor valve,
which there is no " mid position"
you get hot water or central heating " not both "

Hi
Please note I have no expertise of any kind - couldn't even tell you what kind of boiler I have!
However, this happens to me when I change fron hot water only to hot water and central heating - the water is not as hot.
I don't know why but to relieve it I have to loosen a nut near the hw tank and air comes out - like bleeding a radiator. After this, water is hotter. Some sort of air lock?0 -
Could you provide a pic of the area around your hot water tank please to be able to determine exactly how your system is configured/piped? Thanks.mumnotplusone wrote: »I don't know why but to relieve it I have to loosen a nut near the hw tank and air comes out - like bleeding a radiator. After this, water is hotter.
