  • And everyone else, forgive me for not mentioning names:

    I will quit the lottery.

    Cancel super duper bank account.

Sell anything and everything on Ebay (started this already)

Am signed up to online surveys already.

Computer isn't interest free. Will see how much I owe now and save towards paying it off a few months early.

    Claim back bank charges.

Nag the OH even more about the cost and damaging health effects of smoking.

Furthermore I will open another bank account and have £200 transferred into it for food shopping transactions (yes? no?)

    Thanks guys and gals
  • Hi M.A.M

While you oh is looking for a job, and i know how hard it is to fit in around children! Could she not perhaps sells some things around the house that you all no longer need.
Ebay for example - she must have loads of stuff that the children have grown out of, clothes, books, toys that sort of thing.
Also clothes etc of your own? What about dvds, cd's etc that you already have listened to? Bags she doesn't like, perfume she doesnt wear, you will be amazed at how you could get together by doing selling all these things?

Also i did as advised above with regards to the kids savings, it absolutely broke my heart to *borrow* their money. We used it to settle our overdraft so we could start afresh from zero in our current account otherwise we we have never have gotten straight(ER!)

The kids never knew and we are slowly building it back up for them....

    Hugs

  • ooh sorry mam, i crossed posted with ya! (You must be a quicker typer than me!);)
  • Thats ok pot o gold, I appreciate your input anyhow :)

I've been looking at my house insurance and £38pm seems quite a bit. I had a letter from Halifax today which said that similar insurance would cost me £127 (estimate) a year. Might be a saving to be made there.

Sent my letter to Barclays today politely requesting my money back (following steps of Martins article)

The thing with selling anything and everything on Ebay is that there is so much stuff that don't sell at all, so I'll end up paying out a load of fees and get nout back for my efforts or outlay.

    Missus won't do roll ups.
  • Don't forget if your going to change loads of stuff like insurance and what not then go through quidco so you get cash back https://www.quidco.co.uk
  • Missus won't do roll ups.

Then at least make her buy her own. £80 is a lot of money - especially for someone who isn't working - to spend on what I suppose is a 'luxury' item.

Just think what you could do with that money

i have to agree on the smoking and im a 20 a day smoker !!

I do buy normal ciggies but i also buy tobacco and roll my own - much cheaper and who is going to know if there is only me in the house ?

Theres only me and my daughter here and i work full time, my ciggie money is paid for by cutting back on other stuff like food, and clothes etc for me.

No way would my daughter go without just so i could smoke....

Be tough, tell her its an expensive habit you cant afford and she either pays for them herself, quits or smokes roll ups !!

    Sorry to be harsh..

  • In honesty I have tried and tried but she won't budge

Today I paid off what I owe on the computer with my £2 savings and a little extra stash I erm...got recently. So that's a £32pm saving. Plus a saving of about £60 interest :D

    Hmm, what next?

Car insurance is due in March and I found Budget car insurance will do it for about £220 and if I go through quidco I could get £25 back. So that's a saving of about £150 + I'm paying it in one go so that'll save me £34 a month :D
