I do a lot of walking and need a gps thing that i can use all day and then connect to a pc so that it can create a map of where ive been and how long it took to get there. Does anyone know of a device that I could get?

Do you happen to have an iPhone or Android Smartphone? If you do, there are plenty of free applications which do this and let you track every aspect (how far, fast, elevation, calories) and chart it to a map.0

Most hand-held GPS devices do this.
Also GPS enables smart phones can do the same.Laters

No i dont, did consider that i might have something on my phone, but having been into a mobile phone shop it seems that non of my phones will do it.0

Shame you've not got an Android phone because I could recommend Endomondo which I use to track myself when I'm out on delivery. Walking speed, altitude etc and uses google earth mapping.0

Are you able to print off maps of where you have been with that? I think I need it for the same purpose you use it for.0 -
You might like to research GPS loggers, I bought couple off Ebay, last year, and they work very well in car and aircraft, so no problem when walking, make something to strap it to your arm or top of rucksack.
You then download it to your computer, and usually can display it in GoogleEarth or supplied software.
I cannot find the model I have now on Ebay, but something like this appears to be suitable

I use one of these to track distance and time when skiing

its not great but does the job, its cheap and I dont think the GPS aerial and chip is that brilliant. (its not nearly as sensitive as my phone, gps locks take longer and signal drops out in trains)
But it does have a nice piece of software that maps directly ontop google maps for you and unlike other cheap trackers it has a screen so you can flip though some of the information on the move.
GPS apps on phones are nice but are not really situiable unless you have a constant power source (car etc.) The battery just gets chewed up in no time and then you can make calls etc.
Where as I can leave the tracker on all day.0 -
Yes, it also keeps a history of all your tracking. Just set up a free account on the website. I've got mine linked up with my facebook account so when I start out my friends & family can track me live(if they are really bored.......lol), trouble with that though is my kids can come and find me and ask for money.....tut.Are you able to print off maps of where you have been with that? A lot of us at work use it as it is fairly accurate.0 -

you can be sure of that. I go geocaching with my phone, and carry 2 spare batteries
(though if I turn off all networks it lasts all day, but doesn't function as a phone
