DVD decoder needed please.

I have just finished cobbling together a Dell PC. Most things seem to be working now but I can't play dvds. It's not too important but it would be nice. I get the following message
Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.
Where can I get a free dvd player from. It will play cds.
