Dampness on driver's side..what could be the cause?

  • Still haven't had a chance to check out all what's mentioned in this thread. However, I'm wondering whether water leaks are covered in a warranty or would I need to take it to a garage myself?

had a damp problem in my corsa when we bought it water was dripping down from above/behind the pedals and soaking the layers under the carpet.

took some finding but eventually me and my dad figured out where the water was getting in using the hosepipe and looking in the footwell, through a bad weld or badly-sealed bit down behind the windscreen washer bottle. squirted some mastic down there and so far it has worked perfectly

although the problem i understand with water leaks like that is that there are hundreds of places it could be getting in, mine was sort of lucky because it was in an area we could access once the windscreen bottle had been removed
Come on, it's not rocket surgery is it?

depends on the manufacture. i think ford only covers water-entry for one year but others cover it for the full three years. not sure about kia with the seven years.

ring citroen and ask them is best

The above need checking, but also:

Is there are scuttle below the windscreen where leaves can collect and block the drainhole? This could lead to water entering the inside of the car - I had this on one car.

Also check if the seal on the windscreen is ok. And check the bulkhead from the engine compartment and see if any rubber grommets, etc, are loose or out of place.

Believe it or not, some types of shoe can bring in quite a lot of water, especially those with thick rubber or crepe soles.

That's exactly the answer I was going to give, plus it's the right time of the year for it to become obvious.

Mine got so bad on a VX that if I turned sharp left after heavy rain I got 1/2 gallon of water dowm my right leg;)

The other simple answer is leave the rubber mats out to prevent the condensation. I always use household carpet off cuts instead to prevent this happening.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

If you are able to lift the carpet off the floor then sprinkle talcum powder over the floor round the pedals etc then spray with water or after it rains you should be able to see the trail of water and where its coming from.
counting down the time I got left.:beer:

I had the above problem and the mechanic suggested this...

Go to the jet wash. Sit in it, have someone blast the car, look for drips/dampness.
So I went through the car wash (before there were self service jet washes), and what must have been about 2 gallons poured in through the heater blower from the scuttle under the bonnet, which was full.
