I-pod/itunes problems with film titles

My husband bought himself an ipod classic and has asked me to load some films onto it. I downloaded itunes onto my pc and jumped through all the hoops, but every film I have put into itunes has had the name changed so that it is impossible to tell which film it is without playing it first!
Is there any way I can change the names in itunes - when I right click on a title to change it (like I can do normally on my pc), there is no rename option.
Is there another programme I can use that will do the job right? Also, it won't accept the format that I use for my Archos 7 (avi), so I have to re-format each film again, after finding the dvds! Grrrrr Can I get it to accept avi formats and if so how?
My husband wants me to have it ready before we go on holiday in just over a weeks time. I am pulling my hair out on this and it is using up valuable time.
