Help Please! Currys had money for over a year!

Options
Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone can help with this situation. Around a year and a half ago, (in June) my dad went to Currys and purchased a microwave and a fridge. The fridge wasnt in stock and so organised delivery. My dad paid by switch card and went off to await delivery. At the time he had a lot on with setting up a buy to let and other business and Currys messed him around with the delivery and so phoned to cancel. He has only just realised today that the £299 (or there abouts) had been debited from the account, but never returned (for the fridge).

He has spoken to Currys helpline who have said to go to the store to speak with a manager.
How will they be with regards to a refund? Obviously there is no delivery slip so proof that it wasnt delivered.

The other thing is that they have had this money for a year and a half without noticing that they had overcharged a customer, what can my dad do about this? (other than checking his bank account more regularly!!)

Thanks everyone

Its a sticky one is this. But how could he have not noticed it earlier? That amount of money in that situation would be worth fighting for at the time?

Have you got bank statements or credit card statements (whichever method of payment he used) from the time that showed it going out of the account but not going back in? Has he also still got any reciept etc for the microwave? Or any confirmation of the cancellation?

It may be worth getting some advice from either the CAB or Consumer Direct or Trading Standards who may be able to advise you.

  • Thanks for your help, just to clear up, he was setting up a buy to let and other business at the time and so had excess of £100k in and lots of amounts going out. He really is the most meticulous person I know, I am so surprised myself that he didn't notice! Yes he has bank statements showing that it went out, but not back in again, and has the receipt for the one part of the transaction carried out (the micro). The head office at Currys have said that the cancellation should be in the store as *I think* he cancelled over the phone (will need to check this with him). As I said in original post, there will be no delivery note to show that he actually did get the fridge.
