Solar Panels LG250S1C or Sharp NU-R250J5

Hi, Considering the recent news about the reduction in FiTs for solar installations after 8th December, I'm in somewhat of a hurry to complete my application with a supplier.

I currently have two potential suppliers willing to install within the next three weeks. Both are a similar price but one is offering the LG250S1c panels where the other is offering the Sharp NU-R250J5 panels. Does anybody have any experience of these two panels and which would be the better to go with ................. deadline is Tuesday, decisions, decisions!

Thanks
F.

Just looked at the spec of these panels. they both seem good choices. I have a slightly different type of sharp panels and have no complaints at all but im sure LG will be the same. there both mono with very simular efficiency levels. So I think the choice will be down to who will be the fastest and who do you have more confidence in. The invertor can effect things also which you didnt state. if there both the same then that wont help. with the change date of FIT possibly being so close you are going to have to move, so my choice would be based on that. Who is going to get the work done first. My installers unfortunetly kept cancelling the appointment and rescheduling. That would be fatal in your case and could end up loosing you a lot of money. Its a very hard decision

  • I have panels myself and have been using pvoutput.org to compare panels. I must say, the sharp panels do look good. Someone got almost 20KWh generation in one day.

I am using ZN Shine panels and I topped out at 17KWh that same day. I am very happy with my panels but the Sharp panels perform extremely well and will be reflected in the sell price.
  • Alot of people do like to go with the Sharp panels as they are manufactured in the UK and the guarantees that come with them are reasonable aswell.

Okay, I've placed my order, the supplier of the Sharp panels couldn't guarantee installation before 6 December, that's too close to the 12th for my liking, also the type of panel had to be changed because of supply difficulties from 16 x NU250s to 16 x NU245s = 3920W. Although the price was also adjusted for this to £11k but as I say the time factor was a big problem. So I've gone with the LG panels but these have also changed to the LG255S1C, again because of supply difficulties, so I can only have 15 of these = 3825W. The price for the 15 x LG255S1c is £10.4K, so a bit of a saving but also with an install date of 24 November which is good. The supplier is also taking the responsibility for sending off all the documentation for the FiTs. If it all comes together then I'll be very happy!

    Hi

Are you saying that the 250's are in short supply and the 245's not and that some LG units are in short supply too ? ..... looks like the wholesalers/installers are using the announcement as an opportunity to clear slow moving, old or excess stock in order to reduce financing costs to me .... ;)

Anyway, good luck with the timing ... :)

Zeupater why do you always hit it on the head. I bet the fitters are having a hard time. everyone wants promises.
  • Sounds like a pretty good deal you got, especially with an install date so soon. Lots of people are trying to get an install date before the cut off along with MCS and FiT applications. Installers/suppliers aren't pushing old or unwanted stock, its the fact that this announcement has worried alot of people so places are bulk buying and creating shortages for everyone. Its a nightmare!

Agree, I reckon that the phones have been red-hot for a day or so ... but when the Germans announced cutting their FiT almost two years ago what I described is exactly what happened over there and a number of UK installers/wholesalers used the 'shortage' of components, especially inverters, which the announcement caused as an opportunity to move stock or increase margins by specifying alternatives ..... it's just obvious that some will make use of the opportunity and do it this time too, if I was in business & holding stock which would need to be seriously written down in a couple of weeks time I would attempt to move it too ...
