Hi All
Quick question re the above.
I monitor my credit file online and I was looking at it this morning and there are 3 recent (ie within 3months) searches from insurance companies (Churchill, RBS insurance and AA i think).
Now, I was thinking of getting a new car a few months back so was going on confused.com etc to price up quotes for a new car. Is this what has appeared on my credit file as I have not got any new lending/credit cards for 2 years? My actual policy for my current car was renewed in June so it cant relate to that.
My rating has gone down about 35 points so was just wondering if it was down to these new searches?
Im looking to get a mortgage in the next 6 months so want as high a rating as possible.
Anyone got any thoughts?
Thanks
Jimbo

What is the "type" of the search.
If they are generic/identification/money laundering type searches then they will not affect your credit rating.
So are they actually credit searches or are they just identity checks? My rating has gone down about 35 points
Is this one you paid for from a CRA?
These are considered a pointless waste of money as do not correspond to how any lender will rate you.
The CRAs will say they have expertise in this area, but of course they are selling it.
Please be aware it has no impaat on any lending decision so you might be better off saving your money.0 -

Hi, thanks for your post!
I use privacyguard. Now I know most will say this is a waste of time/cash but in the past I have had mystery missed payments on a student overdraft which had appeared without me knowing. This only came to light a couple of years ago. Needless to say it got sorted and removed but I still get paranoid about things appearing so like the peace of mind.
It just said "searches" - what kind of codes are there?
I can go back on and look maybe - but will me searching my own file and leave a "footprint" which is bad?
