Try Newer Firefox

I am using firefox 3.6, Can I install a newer version of firefox to use and try seperately, in the same way as having chrome and opera avaliable and selected from the desktop, without updating or altering my current version of firefox.

    Well I've got the newest firefox and the old version is still listed in the programmes. Try it anyway. With the last but one update I ended up going back to the previous version as my favourite theme was not supported. Can't remember but I think I might have done a new install. Whatever - bookmarks etc were preserved non probs.

    Just install it to a new directory. Choose Custom Install.
  • Yes, I have Aurora (Beta Firefox 9 iirc) and regular Firefox.

    Just install the portable version(s):

    You can install to your hard disk, it doesn't have to be a flash drive.

    Do I chose custom install and then make a new folder in programmes and install to there?

    Edit. Typing this from firefox portable. Seems fine. Very easy to install!. Are there any functional diferences or benefits between the portable version and a harddrive installed version?.
  • Whats the difference? Is the new update worth getting?

    I like my present version.

    my main concern is security, newer version have better security than older versions, the latest FF does look a little different to older version but you soon get used to it (or you can change it's look to make it look like an old version)

    plus it supports new web technologies allowing the internet to move on, you don't want to be one of those old fuds using IE6 do you?

    Only issue with using the latest version of a browser is that a lot of Banking sites take a while to validate the new version so you could lose internet banking access.
    This isn't laziness on their part, but, just like the industry I work in, they have to be 200% sure the program is absolutely secure and bug-free in order to protect themselves.

    I work for a company that makes medical diagnostics kit and we still use Windows XP and MS Office 2003 as they are deemed secure.

    IME with Nationwide, updating to the latest version of Firefox has never been a problem.

    You can only be 100% sure, stop using management speak on the Techie board :)

    I run FF 8 beta and the three banks I visit never seem to have problems.
