Anglian Windows Nightmare

Hi.
After ordering double glazing with Anglian Windows, and then trying to get hold of them for 4 months to ask when theyre going to install it, and then them reluctantly giving me an install date - they are now leaning on me heavily to pay immediately!

The installer asked for payment as soon as he came to the door. He hadnt even installed the windows! That was last week, and I've had 3 phone calls from Anglian demanding payment and 5 minutes ago I had a man from Anglian turn up on my doorstep asking for money!! When asked what their payment terms are, he said he didnt know, but its normally a case of "push push push"!

Ive spent the past few minutes looking at the documents that I have for Anglian, and nowhere does it mention Payment Terms. Ive looked at the papers that Ive signed (including T&Cs) and see no mention of it. Im intending to pay them (although the installer had to come out again to fix a mistake he made), but I dont currently have the money because I presumed the Payment Terms were 28 days.

Has anyone else had this experience with them? Can I stop their bully-boy tactics - repeated phone calls and people turning up on my door step!? Is there an ombudsmen I can contact? (Maybe Trading Standards?)

I live by myself and feel vulnerable enough without having people turn up on my door step demanding payment!

Thanks.

Normally you would pay on completion, perhaps holding something back if more work is needed.

Let's get something clear - have the windows been installed? Is the job complete?

If there are no payment terms defined in the contract then I think net 30 days is the default. But I may be wrong.
  • when my windows were done by anglian, we paid AFTER they were installed.

i asked the sales guys and they said you dont pay until its installed and happy, no-one came knocking on my door asking for cash, that would sound alarm bells, id start looking elsewhere, it smells fishy to me.

have you spoken to Anglian head office to see what they recommend?
  • wait wait, you said they hadnt installed yet, but then in another line you say he came to fix an issue??

When the last window is fitted you pay up. Sounds like you are looking for excuses to withhold payment. If it was my business I'd be knocking on your door every day!
  • Pay them their money now - they've kept to their side of the contract, now you need to keep to your side.

worried jim: Sounds like you shouldnt go into business if thats your attitude. Knocking on a customers door every day!? What a way to pee of customers! (Unless you supplied them with Payment Terms and the customer didnt stick to them).

maninthestreet: Yes, they've installed the windows, but without any Payment Terms, how am I meant to know that its payment on completion!? Unless PTs are supplied, you would presume its the usual 28 days. If I had known that sooner then I would have made sure that I had all the money ready to pay them on completion.

leebtyler: I'll phone their head office today and explain the situation. They did install the windows - and thank god I didnt pay them immediately, because I had to phone the installers to come back and correct a mistake he'd made. Theres no way that if I had paid him imemdiately he would have come back.

Where are you getting this presumed 28 days to pay idea from? If the contract states no payment terms, why didn't you check with Anglian when they would require actual payment? At the moment, you come across as a bad debtor, with a 'can't pay, won't pay' attitude.

Is that really how Im coming across? Ive already said Im happy to pay, but because I didnt know it was 'Payment On Completion' (and I still dont know becasue I dont have their PT's) I dont currently have the money because I wasnt anticipating them wanting to be paid immediatley. Yes, with the benefit of hindsight I would have enquired when they wanted paying (even though the impetus should be on them to provide PT's), but then with the benefit of hindsight I would have gone to a local company who Ive subsequently found out would have done it a lot cheaper.

Your best bet is to ring Customer care line: 0800 988 9398 or alternatively you can send them an email at customer.services@angliangroup.com and ask for a copy of the email to be sent to the CEO of customer services with all the information on what has happened and I am sure they will be more than happy to help!
