I never said that you personally were complaining or didn't read things. I would have said "one" except it sounds affected.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has that problem! I usually end up having to put a load of waffle about it being 'you' in general, not 'you' particular poster. Which probably sounds more affected.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Mending your car is one thing but you really cannot expect to give away money that should be used to support yourself and your family and then claim public money for day to day expenses.

It's his money and should be able to do as he pleases and I assume has already had taxes taken from it as well as being devaulued through inflation.

Completely agree you can spend your own money as you see fit if you are not reliant on the state to support you, you cannot blow it on holidays and give it away to then rely on the taxpayers to pay your rent because you can't afford to.

In this case OP would have been better not taking the pension as they were already reliant on the state to support them. They put themselves in a position that they were seen to be able to support themselves so assistance stopped.

I have to say I have big sympathy with anyone caught up in this mess as realistically the only thing people who save or put money aside for their pensions are guilty of is trying to give themselves the bonus of a bit of luxury in their retirement.

Afterall, if the OP didn't save or pay into a pension fund he possibly could have had more luxuries in life earlier, but chose to pay into a pension fund so as to have a more comfortable life in his retirement, not to have to live off that money given the fact we all have to pay our contributions towards state pensions and benefits at some point during our lives. So why should he get punished for using the money he chose to save and be forced then to live off because this government want to stop people having any enjoyment in life?!!!!

Also as an aside to this story, my parents find themselves in a precarious situation themselves regarding a claim for pension credit. Just as the OP in this story chose to save into a private pension, so to did my father who unfortunately early this year was diagnosed with MND, along with having already lived with prostate cancer for the last 3 years. He even carried on working up until May of this year despite being in a lot of pain and finally had to pack up work, 3 years shy of retirement age. Now they still have a mortgage to pay off as well as a few other loans and were forced into cashing in his pension but upon hearing how you are then ineligible for help they decided to take the money out of the bank and then claim pension credit. Only after a number of checks by DWP they have now decided that they still have this money and aren't entitled for similar reasons of deprivation of capital. Quite simply this system is disgusting and treating a seriously ill person like this is just a smack in the face and he is now losing all fight to carry on. They chose to spend a fair chunk on luxuries too, simply because he has a limited lifespan, roughly 12 months, but to be told that you are depriving yourself when you are merely only trying to enjoy the last few months of your life is just sick.

Anyway I wish the OP luck in sorting out his mess, you have my greatest sympathies.

Depending on his age, has he claimed AA or DLA?

Yes only recently he has claimed the higher amount of DLA but £500 a month with no other income coming in only goes so far, especially given the current climate and winter heating bills to take into consideration.

So long as they aren't taking too much tax payers money though I suppose thats the most important thing eh. Doesn't matter that he used to pay more a month in tax and NI when he worked than he gets back but then since when did this government ever treat its people fairly.
