Question regarding failed identity check - with legitimate documents

On Thursday I travelled to London City Airport and had to collect a Hertz rental car. This is something I do regularly for business trips, not always from this particular location, but generally with Hertz I rent a car every month or so. I provided the usual documentation passport, driving license, paper counterpart and credit card for the booking.

However, I was unable to collect the car since I failed some sort of identity check. The desk agent provided me with a printout from 'Experian Authenticate Plus' which stated that I had a potential U007 developed identity alert on my file. There was some reference number on it, but no details on how I could appeal or what the problem actually was. End result was that I couldnt take the car, and had to rapidly find another rental company who took my documents.

At this stage I am unsure what to do next and would like some advice. I emailed experian and was given a standard reply that they would investigate. I have 2 credit cards, all of which are paid in full each month, with no outstanding debts, living at same address for 12 years. Since I rented a car around 3 weeks ago previously I can only assume this must be a recent problem or I would have been refused before? There are also no suspicious transactions on any of my bank accounts, so no reason to suspect fraud elsewhere.

The only discrepancy I have ever been briefly questioned on prior to this was with regards to my documents relates to my title, since I became Dr. in 2009, and some of the older paperwork is still Mr. but I cannot believe this would be an issue here. I would like to resolve the issue whatever it is?

U007 means "The subject may be trying to perpetrate a ’developed identity’ fraud i.e. where someone is developing an identity using a false identity, built up over a period of time."

Its not definite, and requires more investigation, but some people don't want the extra hassle by the sounds of it.

Stands a chance that it COULD be the Mr/Dr thing.

Get a credit report from all agencies (£2 each) and check.
