HPC Closes It's Doors

It's not really that HPC *want* prices to return to "affordable" levels that makes it bad. It's that they *believed* that was inevitable, and conned a load of gullible financial numpties in making horrendous mistakes.
They were either conned, or they were financial numpties. You can't really have it both ways. Generally financial numpties won't be planning to make money by second guessing markets.
Secondly, if HPC was conning people, were other groups not doing the same with the buy now mantra? I take it if someone said Kirsty and Phil were conning financial numpties with the buy now message, you'd just suggest people were silloy to believe them.
I think, what you will actually find, if you take a moment to look at your post, is you have written a, somewhat badly put together post, simply because you don't like the message they discuss.
I don't follow any religion, but I don't call everyone else conned numpties for choosing to turn up at a building each sunday.
To describe a website - where people have to actively seek it out and join, a cult is somewhat bizzare enough to make me feel a little sorry for you if that's the amount of hatred you have towards them because they don't follow your, somewhat eccentric views.0 -

Exactly.
If people were stupid enough to act upon the views of certain members of an internet forum, then they deserve everything they get.
I wonder what the likes of julieq would be saying about a website like housepriceboom.co.uk, if it existed. Mind you it would have struggled in competition with the mainstream media who did their fair share of promoting property investment.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Got my own place yet I still believed a number of years ago that house prices could fall by 50%. Why? Well when you buy for x and in 10 years time it becomes x multiplied by 350% that is a staggering amount of HPI. Just imagine who unbelievable that would be if the same increase had happened on the stock market. My guess would be that an al;mighty great crash would follow.
When IRs reduced to 5% I guessed that the first aid kit was being applied. Little did I think that we would see the life support machine being dragged out at 0.5%. Yet I see inflation all around me. The cost of fuel. food and utilities. City centres depressingly boarded up. No relief in unemployment and a rather impotent mish mash of Lib Dems and Tories who, if the truth be known, have no idea on how to fix it.
Imagine what things would have been like without the reckless lending. Not just here but in many parts of the world. Imagine that in the UK we had not seen the tragic results of HPI. The list is huge of the negative results that this caused.
I think of just one area alone. Housing benefit. Due to the market in housing this presents huge drains on the countries resources.
Kids, I have them in my family that not only cannot afford to buy, they cannot afford to rent on their own.
Due to a number of reasons my wife and I are selling up and buying a place near London with her soon to be divorced sister. Although 2 of her kids have left home we feel that we need to have enough room should one of them need to return. Thankfully with pooled money we are hoping to achieve it.
I go back 30 years ( heck like it was yesterday ) and think of my singleton male and female friends who could easily afford somewhere in the South East. I am not talking about some ghastly new build studio flat, I am talking about a decent terrace house. Some of those places of late have been changing hands to close to £200k!

It's not really that HPC *want* prices to return to "affordable" levels that makes it bad. It's that they *believed* that was inevitable, and conned a load of gullible financial numpties in making horrendous mistakes. Then they banned anyone who took a contrary line, often while many of the ringleaders were giving up and buying themselves. It's a despicable site, and it's more of a cult than anything else.
Prices don't change due to what seems right to a particular group, and by definition house prices are affordable to the group that can afford them. That has never been all of the population, and as supply dwindles, the percentage that can afford them decreases. All you have to do to predict house prices is look at the shortfall between supply and demand, and as that is going only one way, the long term pressure is for increases. You can sit and feel smug at small falls this year, but that's going to be reversing sooner than you think, and you've missed the cheap mortages and your rent's increasing.
Oh Dear.....
This is what I am talking about,
"conned", "financial numpties", "despicable", "horrendous mistakes", "despicable site", and the best for last "a cult" WOW!!
Incredible emotive suff in just one little post, with some of those quotes I thought you must be talking about a banned child pornography site and not about a group of people that are just talking about a property crash. You really need to work on your perspective.
They are wrong(HPC), and many are probably finding it difficult to dismount off this particular high horse. But you poking sticks at them does not alter the fact that many of the points made on that site are valid and correct to many, i.e house prices and housing are a problem to many millions. I would also suggest that housing is a major problem to those that own today, many have borrowed crazy amounts of money, the fear of rates rising or prices dropping must be awfull.
It's probably why you are getting so defensive as well.0 -
Not read the whole thread ..... if the HPC site has gone forever then it is no loss to anyone, it was a nasty place to visit.
I did join and posted some gentle home truths about the long term posters who would never, ever, ever, ever buy a property whatever the prices was - which is true. They are so set in their own mindsets that they would always think further falls were due ........ and hence continue to rent and buy others properties for them.
The world moves on and people get on with their lives .... those on HPC can only post there and remain stuck in their own little worlds.
I do hope they have lost their poisonous little pathetic moaning whinging site .... and I hope the losers don't come here!!Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0 -

Au contraire Rodney, I hope they do pour over here. They could do with hearing some bullish views.0 -
I got banned from hpc back in july for nothing more than pointing out teachers on 35k probably had a harder time of it than embittered IT types who all claimed 60k+ on the bullpoo heavy "how much do you earn" thread. There's some posters on there who actually are going to be having withdrawal symptoms, or perhaps they'll just crack on with their lives now instead.0
