Where is the best place to sit in the theatre ?

Phantom is coming to a theatre near me next year. I am tempted to go and see it but the tickets are expensive. I usually go for front row because then there is no risk of Mr Tall sitting in front of me :rotfl:
but would I be better sitting somewhere else ??

It's impossible to say for sure without knowing the theatre but personally for Phantom I think you need to be in the centre of the Dress Circle, in about the third or forth row, in order to appreciate the effects.0

Check out theatremonkey they have reviews on the seating for almost every theatre in the UK and will tell you the best place to sit.0

For concerts and shows, I usually aim to be dead centre, about 1/2 to 2/3rds back (as a rule). Shows are designed and mixed from that position, and so it is usually a superior experience.
For stadium shows, stand right in front of the mixing position (centre-spot ish) and you'll get as close to perfect as anywhere! Your eyes can take in the whole show from there, but the sound is mixed for that sweet-spot and you also get to enjoy any 'stuff' going on in the arena.
Personally I'd take that spot over 'golden circle' anyday0 -
It does entirely depend on the theatre... in many the front row is actually a bit uncomfortable because you're too low down and too close to see the stage as it is intended to be seen.
If the theatre has aisles cutting across the middle of the auditorium (common in the large ones), the row immediately behind that aisle is generally very good - you have a gap in front so Mr Tall is too far away to hide anything, and you have the freedom to get in and out of your seats without making the whole row stand up.

Centre seats, Front row in the Dress Circle is normally the best in most theatres. That is if you are not too fat, Flat Eric.0
