Returning an iBook (Mac) Laptop after 1 yr

Hi all

I bought a ibook from Apple in March 2005. i bought it for one reason, Macs don't crash.

Since I have had it, it has crashed. It has crashed more than any computer i have ever used.

I took it back to the Apple store and apart from some fiddling, they said they couldn't even investigate it.

A friend says I shouldbe able to return it even though it is past the warranty under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. Another friend seems to think all items have a2yr warranty in the EU.

Based on the info my first friend says, I'd like to return it.

The key points are:
1) I bought it as Apple says Macs don't crash
2) I took it back to Apple WITHIN the first yr and they couldn't fix it.
3) It still happens and tho i am computer literate, I can't fix it or find out why it happens.
4) Therefore, it is "not fit for purpose"

Any thoughts?

That shows just how useful they are then! I suspect that the few Macheads on here will keep quiet on this one.

Try the link below for the DTI website. I recently managed to return an Ipod that was 13mths old but they said the hdrive had failed and wanted £161 to repair it( outside 12mth warranty). I perservered and eventually got it repaired free. if it doesn't work, don't give up

That page doesn't load on my windows pc either .....!
  • I have a mac and have never had a problem with it.

The apple store aren't the greatest, I would talk to Apple support. Phone the online store number and ask to be transfered don't go through to technical help as ask you to dial an 0870 number.

They will then put you throught to a repair shop (never apple stores as they are retail only).
Macs are much more reliable than windows and are a lot more use, try these steps and get to enjoy a Mac for what they are, the most relaible, user friendly mainstream systems out there.
