Fancy dress ideas needed for space theme

My church is having an alternative Hallowe'en party on Monday and the theme is space. They only sent the invitation out last night and I am at a conference all day tomorrow (;iterally all day from 7.30am till 11.30pm) so I'm not sure what to do for a costume.
I don't want to buy a proper one cos that's too much money, but I can;t think of what I could do using stuff I already have at home.
To be honest, I can't think of anything except a spaceman anyway! I think it's a difficult theme.
My DD would be very upset if everyone else is dressed up and she is not (she's 2) so what can I do?
Any ideas?

How about a planet? Made Saturn with rings, e.g. a cardboard sphere surrounded by a different coloured cardboard / foil covered ring. Depends how crafty you are and what materials you've got.
Hmm what else. Maybe the North star, e.g. dress all in black, a hat with N on it and a torch stuck to the top!0 -
dress in green (and some green facepaint) and get some head bopper things and go as an alien!0

Cardboard box - cover with tin foil and use black marker to draw windows or portholes. Daughter wears box with black leggings, black long sleeved top, and silver foil covered headband - she's a space craft.
Use a longish cardboard box covered with foil and dangle orange and red ribbons (roughly chopped fabric from an old Tshirt, crepe paper, etc). Make a cone shaped hat and cover in silver. Add portholes by drawing in black marker - a rocket.0 -
old black leggings and long sleeved black t-shirt - put some pva glue swirls and lines on them and cover in glitter and go as a shooting starsolympic challenge starting 7/1/07:j0

I second the alien, I had the same theme for a party in the summer and I put DD2 (aged 2) in green leggings and a green tshirt with shrek ears (might have some in tesco at the mo as lots of their halloween stuff is shrek themed) I also stuffed old socks and sewed on two each side under the arms which is very effective but you might not have time. I sent DD1 in a blazer, trousers, red tie and specs as Dr Who as she already had a sonic screwdriver. I also saw someone in PJs and a dressing gown with a towel from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.0

long white dress and a couple of hairpieces twisted into 'headphones' and there you go 'Princess whatsit' from Star Wars!0

Tin foil - strong stuff not the thin stuff that will tear easily - and wrap it around you to make a top. Use it to fashion a pointy hat or a satellite dish shaped one and wear white trousers / short skirt to go with it (or use tin foil as a mini skirt as well - but going to the loo may be a bit difficult!:hello:0

Some great ideas here thanks. I do have some time on Monday afternoon to make something as I am a SAHM, so as long as I have a plan I should be able to do something.
Some of the ideas I love but I know she'd not wear, sadly, like the Saturn idea, but I think she'd work as an alien or a white/tin foil space agey person.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Does she have anything in yellow? Or white? You could make a pointy crown ( like the Statue of Liberty ) in gold wrapping paper /gold tinsel. Attach more gold tinsel ( raid the Christmas decorations ). Et voila - your little ray of sunshine.0

Thanks everyone. In the end, I dressed her in green tights, a green top that's too big for her so it was like a dress, and then made her a headdress using a cereal packet that I cut to be like a hippy headband with four long wiggly alien eyes on top. I coloured it in with crayon lol.
She looked good and kept it on all evening too!
Thanks for all the ideas as I'd have been stumped otherwise. I did just go with the easiest option, but it was also completely free which is a bonus. Just as well, as only two other kids dressed up in the end and I'd have been very cross if I'd spent a lot of time and money, especially as there were no prizes for those dressed up grrrr. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
