EON and meter readings problem

My DD manages her account online. She has just tried submitting her meter readings as requested for her first proper bill but they say there is a problem and she needs to ring them. Anyone any ideas why there would be a problem. It's only the electric low and normal they won't accept. The gas one has been accepted. I'm wondering if it's because her actual readings are quite a bit less than their estimate for the low.

She can't ring them now as she's left for work and can't get to a phone until after her shift later tonight. She's panicking somewhat.

Thanks

    Hi abwsco

I'm sorry for any concern, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

Our website will question meter readings if they don't fit in with usage we'd expect. This is really just to avoid any big bills when there's been typing errors.

In this case, I think you're on the right track in that the low reading is just less than we estimated, so we need to enter them manually from this side.

This won't happen every time, it's just because it's her first bill from us so we don't really know how much electricity your daughter uses.

It's also possible (but much less likely) with a two rate electricity meter that either the current meter readings or the opening readings we have, are the wrong way round.

Get your daughter to double check the readings and make a note of how they're marked on the meter, it might be L for Low and N for normal but is often numbered R1 and R2 or similar.

There should also be a marker on the meter to let her know which register is active at the time or she can take two sets of readings an hour or so apart and see which one has advanced.

Then it's just a call with the details and we'll get that estimated bill corrected.

I know the lines have been busy this week so apologies in advance if she has trouble getting through.

See how you go and just let us know if you need any more help.

Bumping this old post as DD had an estimated bill as the meter reader called when no-one was in and couldn't access the electric meter. She has submitted readings online but again she's had to ring as the readings weren't what would be expected. Her estimated bill was on the 27th Jan but her readings were given on the 30th. When will DD get a new bill. She's expecting so has pregnancy brain and can't remember what she was told:o

    TIA:)

    Hiya abwsco

I’m so sorry the same things happened again. I ought to have mentioned last time that it might take a few up to date meter readings to change the use our system is expecting. :o

We’re introducing a new process that will stop this sort of thing in future, but for now I’m a little surprised she hasn’t already had that amended bill.

If you’d like to send her address details to the email address on my profile page, I’ll have a look at things and see what I can do to make sure it doesn’t keep happening, not really practical giving readings every month with a new baby on the way!

I’ll keep an eye out for your email but congrats in advance on your new Grandchild

    Amanda :)
