Housing Benefit

Hi,
I'm currently on income based Job Seekers and Housing Benefit, I also receive £200 a month pension. The Housing Benefit only covers part of my rent (private landlord). I'm still struggling to make up the difference and take care of everything else I have to pay out.

My daughter, who is in full time employment, and a private rented place of her own, has suggested giving up my place for now, and moving in with her.

Obviously the HB I get at present, is for the flat I'm in. If I take up my daughters offer, I'll have to contribute there. Will I receive any help with that? I suppose I should also ask, will moving in with her affect my JSA?

Cheers in advance.
James.

You will not get HB if you move in to live with your daughter. You would be expected to contribute to her household bills from your JSA. Moving in will not affect your JSA.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

if you just move in with your daughter you wouldnt get hb but ...

if you were joint tenants, then you would.

is there any chance that her landlord would allow you to go on the lease?
  • Have you declared the pension to the Job Centre ?
  • I understand what you're saying. Regarding my daughters landlord, I'll get her to ask. It's not a company that owns her place, just a couple my daughter knew before. I've meet them a couple of times, good people, so they might be amenable to putting my name on the lease. Regarding my pension, yes I told the Job Centre. I have no problem using the rules and regulations to my advantage but I won't break them. I'm not meaning that in a judgemental way, I just don't want the worry of being busted.
