Phone by Debt collector

I had a CPN at the beginning of aug. (from NGP) which i decided to ignore as per guidance here. however when i received the 1st warning letter and discussions with the wife and family who use thse car parks on regular basis and were afraid of being stranded if clamped (they are students and work late in hospitals and libraries) i decided to pay off the initial asking fee to avoid stressfull situations; I enclosed a letter with it saying that i was paying this under duress and would consider the matter closed as this is a 'pool car' and there are various users.
however, this cheque has not been cashed (perhaps lost in post or are they sitting on it ?) and i have received the usual threatning letters from NGP and roxboroughwhich i ignored and now after the notice of intended litigation (from Graham White) have received phone call from the debt collector wanting to talk to me and as i was away my wife told him so and he said he would call back.. What do i do now ? this is becoming a nightmare which i thought would go away when i wrote off the cheque. what do i tell him ? I do not wish to pay the exaggerated charges which have been suggested. Any advice appreciated.

If they call again tell them that the debt is denied, it should be referred back to the parking company, and any other calls will be regarded as harassment and reported to the appropriate authorities. Or you could tell them to "hang on" put the phone down and leave them for half an hour or so.What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

I have had the same letter to day and I'm unsure what to do as it is addressed to my 17 year old daughter, she was not driving the car on the particular day but is the registered keeper of the car.0

What you do is ignore. It's as simple as that. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
They are sitting on the original cheque to come back later to say the payment is late and they now want £XXX, if you stop the cheque it gives them room to take action for you bouncing a cheque. You should ignore them, if they don't cash your cheque it automatically expires in 6 months I think, or is that a postal orderI had a CPN at the beginning of aug.
