Howdens Quote for Glendevon Cream Kitchen

Options
Hello people, newbie here so apologies if I am asking a question that has been asked by many a person before in advance.

My gf and I are in the process of buying a new kitchen and have spoken to the likes of Howdens, Benchmarx and also Homebase. So far the best price we have had is from Benchmarx for the Tucson which was about £5400.

What discount levels have you been given?

We got a discount of between 60-80% on everything from Howdens, took an 11k kitchen down to £4,500 including appliances. We also got the dishwasher free and £200 off.

What I'd honestly suggest ,having put myself through the misery of a kitchen refurb, is this:
Now you have a rough idea of the kitchen you want, find a reputable kitchen fitter with a Howdens account. Sit down with them ,explain what you want and negotiate a price. They'll use their stronger buying power to drive down the cost from Howdens themselves ,and then the extra saving can go towards them fitting it to a decent standard. You get the peace of mind that things are being done properly, they get some work where the client has a good idea what they want.
  • Thanks for the advice; thing is we have actually gone through an allegedly reputable builder/customer of Howdens (apologies for poor English) yet it appears that we have only got 1k off.

Admittedly we have used a different branch of Howdens but I didn't think that would cause too many problems or difference in price.

On the face of it does that seem a decent price?

The builder is probably taking a big cut, should get more than 1k off list price

Dont get the appliances from Howdens they are just re badged Beko's you can get cheaper elsewhere
  • Just wanted to add, u might wanna check out the worktop prices.

    Oh and google Lamona.

I seriously wouldn't take much notice of discount levels at howdens.

I would disagree completely. You need to pay a lot of attention to the discount levels. If you aren't being given a discount of at LEAST 65%, they aren't giving you their best price.

They will only discount some ranges to 65%, and others up to 80%, it all depends on the profit margin of the specific kitchen.

The prices you have been given seem to be on the high side, especially the appliances, worktops etc.

£378 for a Lemon dishwasher? You can get a Whirlpool dishwasher from one of Howdens competitors for £189 with a kitchen, likewise you can get a fridge freezer for half the price you have been quoted.

  • General rule for Howdens kitchens is buy the units from them as they really good quality for price ,buy appliances somewhere else and try to source worktops elsewhere too .Works best for me .

I agree with dobragol - best to source worktops and appliances elsewhere. But we recently had the Glendevon Cream from Howdens and are really pleased with it. I would suggest that perhaps your builder may be getting a much bigger discount than he's passing on to you? The prices you have listed seem expensive compared to what we paid....
  • Agree with Dobragol comments. I have installed 2 kitchens using Howdens and the level of discount is important. Would use them again for the next kitchen. Buy you appliances elsewhere and use a recognisable brand.
