They didn't backdate our WTC

Hi,
My partner and me recently found out that we were eligable for Working Tax Credits for the last few years but hadn't claimed so stuck in a claim last month along with a letter asking for the claim to be backdated the maximum 3 months as our circumstances hadn't changed over the course of the last 2 years.
Today we've received our awards letter with £50 a week tax credits but absolutely no reference to back dating what so ever.
Are they not backdating claims now? If there'd been a refusal letter explaining the decision then fair enough but the award letter made no mentionn of backdating the claim at all.
Am going to ring the tax credits line but just want to make sure that we should be eligable for back dating before I do... Are HMRC trying to avoid back dating claims now?

They're not backdating you because you never applied. If you'd applied and they'd wrongly said you weren't entitled you might have a hope in hell. But you didn't so basically you don't. Not knowing you're entitled isn't a good enough reason according to them. Shame because £50 a week would add up to a nice holiday at the end of the year."If you don't feel the bumps in the road, you're not really going anywhere "

Ring them up and ask for it to be backdated the 93 days. The application form is processed by scanning it onto the system and notes included with them typically get ignored. The helpline can send a backdating referral for consideration. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
